About 50% of the engineers trained in telecommunications at the University of Bologna find a job in companies that are not of the telecommunication field, as a clear demonstration that a solid background in telecommunications is very helpful in many jobs and professional positions. On the other hand, it is strongly recommended for a career as a designer of networks, or telecommunication devices.

This educational outcome can be achieved by providing, besides a solid background on basic related fields (such as electrical circuits and devices, computer science, and mathematics), deep knowledge of the three macro-layers of telecommunications: Signals and Systems, Networks, Applications and Services.
